Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

Can I get my money back for payment on a boat and a car claim

I paid off a boat and an insurance debt on an uninsured car for the guy I went out with. I have the proof that I paid $11,500 for a boat/trailor and I also have proof that I paid off, an $8,000 debt for an uninsured car that he had co-signed on for someone else.

I also had paid several of his house payments.

We are no longer together and he kept the boat and has only given me $3,000.00 back. Can I file a lein or do something to get my money back...or at least some of it.

Proving contract terms would be very difficult without a written instrument memorializing that the payment was, in fact, a loan. certainly verbal agreements are enforceable, but you would have to prove the terms.

You cannot flie a lien without an express contract providing you a lien interest.

Congratulations on your kindness and generosity!

Unless you have an IOU or other type of promissory note/agreement to repay you, you will have a hard time asserting your claim.
