Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

criminal-juvenile felony

My 17 year old is charged with felony aid&abet. explosive &incendiary devices, mis. disorderly conduct. he drove while 2 others threw plastic bottles with dry ice and water in them, not to hurt anyone or anything just to watch them explode, not knowing it was a crime. Do I need a lawyer or can I handle this on my own? How do I handle this on my own?

He or she should have the benefit of a lawyer, since this is a serious charge with potential life-long effects. Parents will be able to have input, but your child also has the right to a lawyer. Both are better than only one. At least try to get a public defender.

It is a very serious offense. Any crime relating to explosive devices which could carry a risk of injury has the potential to be charged as a gross misdemeanor or a felony.

If the person has no prior record, it may be possible to avoid a conviction with a Stay of Prosecution or a Stay of Adjudication.
