Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
I really need help. My ex-boyfriend have legal custody of my daughter for many years now, recently I found out that my daughter doesn't live with him but with his mom instead. My daughter is 8 yrs old, she wants to live with me in Minnesota instead of living with her grandmother in California (dad's house is a block down from grandma's house).
How do I start a case when I live in Minnesota and my daughter lives in California?

If your daughter has been in California for more than six months ( and I assume from your question that she has been there for several years) then California has jurisdiction over the custody issue. As a general rule, the state in which a child has lived for the preceeding six months has "home state" jurisdiction, and any custody proceeding must take place in that state.
