Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

My wife and I got divorced in MN 7 years ago since then she moved to ND with our 2 children with out my consent now I am getting letters from ND child support office for my support payments. I thought that child support stayed in the state your divorce decree was settled in. Does it or not?

Hello. Good question. As to child support collection & enforcement, states 'work together' as is appropriate. When one parents resides with 'the kids' in one state & the 'payor' of the child support resides in another state, ipso facto, two states are involved. For you to get an idea of this collaborative & cooperative approach, as but one starting point to study, I suggest you go look at a nicely written publication of the House Ways & Means Comm. called 'The Green Book' re. The Child Support Enforcement Process.
