Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota

I was the Trustee of my mothers life insurance policy. I worked at the family business so I would have all correspondence from the insurance company sent to me at work. I left the company in late 2012. I left it up to my accounting department to make sure my mothers premiums were paid monthly from her royalties. My mother was 79 years old when she decided to stop making payments because she thought she could not afford them. A letter of cancellation from the insurance company was mailed to the company where I worked and was addressed to me. I was not informed about this notice until it was too late. (I was informed by my brother who lived with my mom) I confronted the account who is an officer of the company, and he knew I was the policy holder but instead of informing me he stated he just mailed the notice to my mother. Since then my mothers health has gotten really bad and the policy will not be reinstated. Do I have any chance of recouping some if not all of the $1.5 million that the policy was worth?
