Legal Question in Immigration Law in Minnesota

My EAD for my undergrad stem opt expired on 06/18/2014....however I got into a masters program and my New I-20 has a issue date of 7/7/2014. so for 17 days was I out of status? Also, do I need to reapply for a new I-94 or the current one with :duration of stay cover me" I got accepted into masters program on 06/17/2014, however getting all paperwork to school an getting my new I-20 took time.
