police refusing to give up photos of my child in assault case

my 11yr old was assualted by the mayor of my town.officers came after the incident and took pictures of the marks on his neck and the stain on his pants(scared him so much he urinated). when i called today for copies of the pictures, i was refused my request.what are my right and such in this situation? what can i do?

It is common for law enforcement to deny a person acceess to photos or other evidence so long as there is an ongoing investigation in the case.
