Legal Question in Business Law in Mississippi

I got a car my first year of college which was about 5 years ago.. i paid on the car for 2 years when the owner moved his shop i been looking for the owner shop for 3 years and I had no hope. i placed the car in the shop at a local car shop for the breaks to get fixed i went to pay the balance on the car and the owner of the shop said that a man came and said the car was his and asked for the key. Also the mechanic said that the guy had some papers saying he was the owner at one point.. Is that even legal?? when i only had owe the man 300 but couldnt find him due to I couldnt find him he never called saying he moved or nothing!

The auto mechanic may be liable as a bailee who lost possession of vehicle. He may also be liable under other legal theories.
