Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

parental rights

I am having a child in a couple of days. I need to know what rights the father will have if I put him on the birth certificate and give my child his last name?

Re: parental rights

The true father won't gain or lose any rights by your construction of the birth certificate. DNA can establish paternity quickly and absolutley. It might make things easier for you later on if you do it but you can still go to the Dept. of Human Services and they will open up a case for you for free.

Re: parental rights

His "actual" rights won't be affected. If you are married, he'll automatically be put on. If not married, and you leave blank, then you've put up a temporary hurdle for him to jump before he legally get enforceable visitation, but at the same time, you won't be able to get support from him.

He'll always be able to petition the court for visitation, but he'll have to enter into a support order at the same time.

Let me know if I can be of more assistance.
