Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Termination of father's rights

I hired a local attorney July, 2002 to terminate my ex-husband's rights to our children. After I contacted my ex-husband about this matter, he agreed to meet with my attorney in December, 2002 to sign an agreement to terminate his rights. My attorney took my case to court in January, 2003 and informed me that the judge is requiring a guardian ad litem be appointed for my children. My attorney's fee has been paid in full, and I feel like the attorney has had sufficient time to resolve this matter. What are my legal rights to have this matter resolved?

Re: Termination of father's rights

Anytime children are involved in a suit, especially a term. of rts., the judge is required to appoint an atty just for the children. Typically, the Guardian Ad Litem, will look into the best interest of the child and report back to the judge.
