Legal Question in Personal Injury in Mississippi

During a high speed pursuit an officer hit our son and passenger, totalling car and putting passenger in critical condition in ICU. Initial police investigation claims our son was at fault but investigation still incomplete. Should we retain attorney immediately, wait till insurance carrier begins/finishes the investigation, or wait?
