Legal Question in Business Law in Missouri

nepatism

Is nepatism legal, and am I correct in understanding that it means partiality shown to family members in the workplace?

Also, if it isn't legal, what can be done about it and how do you go about proving that it is happening?

Re: nepatism

Nepotism is generally prohibited only in government employment, and only where the relative (or wife, etc.) is supervised directly by their spouse or relative.

For example, the governor's wife could work for the State Agency on Aging, but not as the Governor's secretary.

Some businesses have policies against nepotism, but there is no law that requires a business to have such a policy. It is good business, however, to have such a policy because it prevents claims of special treatment that sometimes are used as the basis to file discrimination complaints.

I hope this helps
