Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

My ex daughter in laws boyfriend slapped my 13yr old grandson across his face so hard it knocked him on the ground then he made him go to his room get his pillow and blanket and trash can and locked him in the breeze way for 2 days. The trash can was for him to use the bathroom. He had to urinate and move his bowled in the trash can. He is now with my son should my son call a lawyer or make a police report first
