You are godo to help this girl. but you may be liable. Therefore, you should consult directly with an attorney in your area. If the mother does not consent or acquiesse to the girl being in your house, Children's services will get involved. It may be in your interest to be the first one to call them and not the respondent. People who take in runaways are seldom prosecuted. If the mother kicked her daughter out, you may not be civillay liable either. But, the facts of each case are different, and change the question of liability. You need to get advice specific to your case. Many attorneys offer a free or low cost initial consultation. You probably need to meet with one. They may advise that you let the local police know that you are housing the minor to prevent her from being homeless.

Good luck
