Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri

small claims decision

My husband managed a restaurant for his brother when we were dating. I later started to work there and then we married. While he was out of town, he made collect calls to the store. Some were accepted by me, some by others. During husbands absence, store was sold & calls stopped. Agreement was made between brother(previous owner) and new owner for new owner to pay phone bill. Once he saw collect calls, he took me to court. I admitted that I was responsible for some of the calls, but not all of them. He wanted me to pay the whole amount. His reasoning being that even though I didn't accept all the calls, the other employees(including co-mgr) wouldn't have done so if I hadn't been working there. He won the claim. I and no one I explain this to understands how I am responsible for someone elses actions. Could you please explain what legal reason I have for having to pay this bill? The judge did not state anything in his ruling.

Re: small claims decision

How much money is involved? You may be spending more time and effort on this than the amount involved justifies. Still, you do have the right to appeal the Small Claims Judgment if you do so within the time allowed. If it means that much to you, file your appeal and go to trial again in front of a different judge.
