Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

If my house was condemned 2 months ago and my landlord has failed to keep me updated on the situation and also fix the problem, am I protected by this clause in the lease to terminate the lease immediately.

"Eminent Domain. If any part of the RESIDENCE, building or land shall be acquired or condemned be eminent domain for any public or quasipublic use or sold to a condemning authority under the threat of condemnation, then the term of this LEASE shall cease and terminate as of the date of the title vesting in such proceedings or sale, and all rentals shall be paid up to such date and LESSEE shall have no claim against LESSOR nor the condemning authority for the value of the unexpired term of this LEASE"

In the first part of your post you didn't indicate that the premises have been taken by eminent domain, or sold to s governmental body in lieu of condemnation. So, it isn't clear how the lease clause you cited would excuse you from paying rent. Perhaps you should consult directly with a civil practice attorney, in your area. Take your lease and other documents. Get advice specific to the particular facts of your situation.

Good luck
