Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

Common Ground Ownership

I recently purchased a house in a Missouri subdivision. There is common ground next to our yard that has been maintained by each property owner for the last 22 years. In fact our house under ground sprinkling system, which was installed by the original owner, goes into the common ground area. Is there any law that would allow us to legally take ownership of that area?

Re: Common Ground Ownership

If you can show a defined area over which you (or your predecessor) has maintained continuous open exclusive control for a period of ten years, you can petition a court to set off to you title to the defined area.
