Legal Question in Traffic Law in Missouri

I received a notice in mail for suspension for no insurance with accident, but have fulfilled the sr22 and fee that is what they said i had to do, but with my father being ill me and my children might be moving to illinois in next 3 months, when i change my drivers license and insurance to illinois, i was told an sr22 for illinois, but do I also have to have a sr22 and carry that for missouri because this is where it happened. The drivers license bureau stated that, but my insurance told me if i moved and went to another state that the insurance would only cover where the vehicle was garaged. I do not want to get into trouble all I have had is speeding ticket and then went through divorce and was without insurance for month and this happened. I dont have money to pay a lawyer and a was hoping for your help

This is really a question of Illinois law, if you plan to move there. You couched this as a Missouri Law question, which it is until you make your permanent residence (domicile) somewhere else. I am not admitted to practice law in Illinois. So, you will still have to consult with an Illinois attorney to determine that steps you must make there. If your license is suspended in Missouri, it is likely that Illinois will not issue a license. Once you have established residence in a new state, the same documentation should suffice for both states. Once your reinstated Missouri License has been surrendered to Illinois, in exchange for a new Illinois License, Missouri may no longer require you top file SR-22s. Hopefully you have hired counsel to represent you on the suspension, as well as any civil or criminal cases stemming form the accident. Ask them how long and how may insurance documentations you are required to provide. to Missouri.

Good luck
