Choosing a residence

Can a person who is 17 move out of their parents home and in with another family if the other family is willing to take them in. If so, what sort of paper work, legal transfers, etc would be required.

Re: Choosing a residence

If the parents are willing to allow the arrangement, they can sign guardianship papers for the alternate family so they can enroll the minor in school and have access to the records, and in an emergency can sign the necessary releases, etc.

If the parents don't agree and the minor really wants to be removed from the residence he/she can petition the court to become an emancipated minor.

In both cases, it would be wise to speak to an attorney in your area to help you determine what the appropriate course of action is.
