Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Nevada

Bilingual Differntial Pay

Spanish speaking employees are being paid $1.50 mor than employees that only speak English. I have been an employee for 2 years and there is another employee that has been here 5 years and we both are paid less than Spanish speaking people who have been here for 6months. What are my rights when it comes to this issue. I think there is some discrimination going on here and i need to know what to do.

Re: Bilingual Differential Pay

There does appear to be discrimination in pay. You have a right to be paid an equal pay with other similarly situated workers. You should speak to an attorney or you could try going to the EEOC office in your area. You could also try the state Labor Dept. to see if they can rectify your situation.

Good Luck.

Re: Bilingual Differntial Pay

There is a common misperception that discrimination is bad. It is not. There is all sorts of discrimination, for example we prefer to eat ripe fruit instead of not ripe fruit; we prefer to hire people who appear competent versus those we think cannot do the job.

It is only were the discrimination is invidious discrimination, such as race, age, sex, sexual preference, etc.

The question here, is this racial discrimination or discrimination based on a skill, that is, speaking two languages.

I know I am not answering the question, as I do not know the answer without research, but looking at the broader issue.
