Can credit card companies garnish social security earnings? Can they take your car and household property?

Yes and no. They can't take the social security from the government before the check is sent but if you put it in a bank account they can take it. You can get it back from them after you file a claim of exemption, same with the car and household goods, but if you don't do that, they keep it.

They can only do this after you are sued except if the bank who issued the card is also the same that you deposit your social security check, then they can take it under something called "set off"
