Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Battery Domestic

On 12/28/08 I was arrested for Battery/DV. in Las Vegas, NV. My boyfriend was intoxicated and we had a arguement and started to strangle me, so in the process I fought back then because I left he called 911. He went to the D.A's office to drop the charges and the said he could not. I thought you could drop charges against someone. Please help.
