Legal Question in Personal Injury in Nevada

What do I do?

We have been sued from a car accident that happened almost 2 years ago. The plantiff is just now claiming injuries, though none were complained of at the time of the accident. We cannot really afford a lawyer. I have 18 more days to file with the court. What forms do I need? Can you refer a low income or pro bono lawyer for a defense case? Thanks.

Re: What do I do?

If you were not insured and cannot turn it over to your insurance company, as suggested by Mr. Selik, you must immediately retain counsel to competently assist you in filing an Answer or other responsive pleading. If you miss the deadline specified in the Summons that was served upon you, you risk losing by default and having a judgment entered against you that the other driver will be able to execute upon and collect from your personal assets or income.

If you need more time to find representation, the opposing counsel (look for his or her contact info on the face of the Summons) may allow you a few more days to search out an attorney to help you. By all means, do not simply ignore the lawsuit, in the hope it will go away. It won't!

I see you are in Churchill County, but the suit may have been filed elsewhere. You might contact the State Bar of Nevada Lawyer Referral and Information Service (check your phone directory), if you cannot find an attorney on your own.
