Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Hampshire

Received / Purchased Stolen Property, Firearm

2 men stole guns in NH.I bought one to keep them from using it.They had been drinking and talking crazy.I was charged with a felony and arrested after I went voluntarily to the NH police. The gun had already been diposed of in a river over MA state line.Should I cooperate with the local police in MA who are trying to assist NH or will that result in another arrest and charges in MA if they recover the weapon? I have already let them search my home without a warrant because they do not believe me and are accusing me of lying about where the gun is. I only have a NH attorney.

Possession of the firearm in MA is a separate crime from the NH crimes. MA could charge you if they so choose. I would definitely contact either a MA attorney or an attorney who is licensed in both MA and NH before you do anything further. Please feel free to contact me further if I can be of further assistance. Martha Kovner

Re: Received / Purchased Stolen Property, Firearm

I recommend that you speak with counsel licensed in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. There is a likelihood that the police depatments and prosecutors will collaborate regarding your case. Any plea agreement entered into with one state will not be binding on the other.

Please feel free to e-mail me with any follow on questions.
