Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

I am going to be paying a lawyer soon to assist in legal counsel for my new start-up. First he is going to hammer out all the legal issues, but what else should he be doing. I'm going to be paying him a $4000 retainer. So what types of documents/ agreements should he be writing up. I am very new to this so please don't take this for naivety. I want to be knowledgable so I don't get shaken down by the lawyer. He needs to work for every penny of the retainer.

If it helps, I'm going to be developing an online website similar to a daily fantasy type of platform.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

First, this is not my area of law so I'm looking to steal you away from this person. Second, the lawyer is the one that should advise you as to what needs to be done and why. Its not your job to tell this person what to do. Did you just find this person randomly? It doesn't seem like you have much trust in him/her. If you want to consider someone else, I can refer you to someone that is not going to shake you down. Feel free to call me at 1-855-9-JEFLAW if you want another name.

There is just no way for anyone here to offer anything meaningful without all the details. There are a number of legal considerations regards to the kind of platform you describe. You should feel comfortable with the lawyer you hire. If not, you should reach out to several for a free phone consult and get their insights regards to what you need, costs, etc. before making any commitments.

If you would like to discuss further over a free phone consult, feel free to contact me anytime that is convenient.

Our firm is now referred by the American Bar Association (see under the New York section):
