Legal Question in Technology Law in New Jersey

Does a website need a legal structure to generate revenue?

I operate a medium-sized informational website, and am considering 1- running contests and 2- posting ads in order to generate minor revenues to cover my expenses.

Do I have to give my website a business structure if I were to run ads on it? In that case, would LLC be the best option, since I don't want to run any legal risks with lawsuits? I am concerned that the costs of setting that up would never be covered by the ad revenues, not to mention the complications of filing taxes, etc. Help!

The website doesn't need the legal protection, YOU might. You don't have to incorporate, but you can get tax breaks at the corporate level if you do. There are plenty of good books on business planning, and the pros and cons of LLCs. Try that first, then if you're still not sure, consult a local attorney AND CPA.
