Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

signature fraud

I want to buy a car for my mother as

a surprise. The dealer said he would

work with me, I could sign her name.

I am wondering what kind of legal

problems I can encounter. My

mother would have no problem with

it and be happy with the car, but if it

was discovered in some other way,

what trouble could I get in?

You've got the subject right: fraud. You can't sign you mother's name on an obligation without her knowledge unless you like jail.

If you are buying the car for her, there is no reason for her to sign anything. The dealer is not working with you. He is getting you in trouble so he can make a sale. Find an honest dealer.
