non-payment of merchandise by check stop payment

I placed a stop payment on a check for the following

reasons: 1. 2months went by, and the check never

cleared my bank. 2. During this time, i encountered

numerous problems with the merchandise.

Therefore, i do not want to now pay for the item,

until these issues are solved.

My questions are: 1. Can i get into legal trouble by

placing the stop payment on the check. 2. Do i now have to pay for it to resolve the problems, or....

A stop payment on a check is not the same as a bad check. By the factual scenario that you have given, it does not appear that you wrote a check knowing that it would not clear the bank. This is, in essence, what the store would need to prove for a successful prosecution on a bad check.
