Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

One of my 35 years old friends got caught in shoplifting in middlesex county area. Its fourth degree criminal offense. This is his first offense. Working on h1b which is going to expire in another 7-8 months. No more extension as completed all 6 years n also recaptured vacation days.

He wants to clean (case dismiss n record expunge) this mess before move back to his home country.
