Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

is a local ordenance violation the same as a misdermeanor?

When I was 20, i was convicted of recienving of stolen property which was amended in courte to a local ordenance violtion (see below). Now I am applying to medical school and have to disclose any criminal or misdermeanor violations. I do not have to disclose anything that was below this level of offence.

If needed, the offence is: LO 111-1, DESC: Pease and Good order

Municipality is MEDFORD TWP (CMM1130), in Burlington County NJ

We don't use those terms in New Jersey but we do have "disorderly person's offenses" which this is not. Whether you have to disclose it or not is a different question. You could get that wiped off of your record. Call me at 732/773/2768 to discuss that in more detail if you want.

If you plan on getting a professional license I would advise you to expunge this ordinance conviction. It may not be criminal, but it is still something that could negatively affect you later in your career plans. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.
