Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Is this proper procedure

Well at my job a little over a week ago an incident happened where some money was stolen that I dropped into a safe on a Monday and on the Thursday of the same week and I have a witness who saw me drop the money into the safe. So now there is a investigation being done and I'm the only one being investigated fully and being taken down to the police station. Is this correct procedure

Re: Is this proper procedure

It is normal for the police to investigate the last person known to have control of the money. The need to know how someone else had access to the money. Be careful because the police can be a bit lazy. You need a lawyer.

Call me if you like.

Re: Is this proper procedure

It is a correct enough procedure that you can't do anything about it except ask for a lawyer to be present.

You don't get to dictate who the suspect is, or how the police conduct an investigation. You have an absolute right to consult with an attorney, and to have one present while you are being questioned by the police, and you should avail yourself of the opportunity.

Re: Is this proper procedure

My best advice is to not say anything to anyone. Speak with an attorney before you do anything else.

My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.

Re: Is this proper procedure

The police are allowed to investigate anyone they have a reasonable belief may have committed a crime. Under the circumstances you describe it sounds like they are acting reasonably. If you do end up getting charged with a crime please contact me. I never charge for simply talking to people about their cases. Thank you.
