Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Dad never visited daughter--can he make trouble for me?

My divorce was finalized today. As part of the proceedings, the judge included the already-existing child support and custody orders. My ex-husband has court-ordered visitation with our daughter, but in the past 8 years he has NEVER used it. He doesn't call her, doesn't write her, and makes no attempt to see her or even contact her at all. He does pay the child support, but that's it. When this was brought up in court today, he claimed I kept him from seeing her, which is not the case (the judge brushed it aside, saying this wasn't the place for that).

Can he make trouble for me now? He left when our daughter was 7--she's 15 now, has no memory of him, and has no desire to see him or have him involved in her life in any way. Can he force himself into her life? Can he take me to court for not letting him see her, even though he never tried for 8 years? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

You are posting this question on the computer bulletinboard, which means that your attorney did not answer the question in a satisfactory manner.

If the Court has ordered visitation with your child, as you have said, then that is what the Court has ordered. it is a serious offense to prevent vistation.

You can go to Court to ask the Judge to modify that and restrict or prevent visitation.
