Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Joint legal custody and moving out of state

My x just moved to NY without my prior knowledge, 250 miles away. We share legal custody and have a court agreed visitation schedule which he will not be able to maintain. What recourse do I have.

You file an order to show cause. I suggest you call an attorney as soon as possible. Call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss.

Take him to Court.

You can file pro se (the Court may supply you the necessary forms) or you can hire someone like me to assist you.

Re: Joint legal custody and moving out of state

Did he take the child with him? If not, you can file a motion to modify his parenting time. If he did take the child, I would file an emergent application with the Court to have him/her returned immediately.

I would be happy to follow up with you. Please email me directly or call my office if you would like to schedule an appointment either in person or by telephone. My contact information is listed in the links below.
