Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Does not know spouse SSN

I would like to divorce my husband but does not know his Social Security Number. My lawyer said that I have to have his SSN Because there is a person with the exact same name serving in the military. I know He was in prison for some crime. And I have not seen or talk to him for more than 5 yrs. I know he is out of prison but don't know where he is. We have a child and I have custody of the child.

Re: Does not know spouse SSN

Do you have a lawyer or did you just meet with a lawyer? If your lawyer isn't going to do anything to look for him, then what it he going to do? Sounds like a real odd situation.

You don't need his SSN, you just need to serve him. He shouldn't be that hard to find. I would start with the prisons and his parole officer. Then there are other ways to track him down through various records. If all else fails, you could always serve him via public notice. It sounds like a rather uncomplicated divorce.
