Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Verbal Child Support Agreement

My ex-boyfriend and I have a child together and he has been paying me child support faithfully outside of the court system. Now he his moving to another state and wants to continue outside of the courts system and has agreed to sign an agreement. I'm unsure and uncomfortable with this. Isn't it better to go thru the court system?

Re: Verbal Child Support Agreement

Just about everyone has the CS payments reduced to a court order. Otherwise, you have no protection.

You are always safer having a court order and payment through the state system. It keeps track of the payments and also gets you a cost of living increase every 2 years.
