Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

is it worth it to file a claim?

Hello,

I have a little situation here and i would like your advise. My boyfriend and i just separated and i am trying to get my things back from him. One thing that he refuses to give back is a computer flat screen that i gave him when his broke, on the agreement that he would use it untill he gets a new one. He never managed to get a new one and now he claims it was a gift. I dont have a proof in writing, the only thing i have is probably the manual formt he screen. It was purchased by my father and this is one of the reasons why i couldn't give it as a gift. My main question is would that be worth it to even file a claim because of all the court fees?

You should go to the County Courthouse in the county where your

boyfriend lives and file a small claims complaint. Small claims involve claims totaling no more than $3,000.00 and is designed for people appear without the assistance of an attorney. The filing fees and costs total less than $30.00 and the fees and costs will be made a part of your judgment. Sue for what the computer cost and at court offer to accept the computer back in settlement of the claim.
