Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

i didn't sign a lease for 2010 to 2011 what I sign was a letter saying that i would sign it. never sign the real lease agreement. can they hold me to that for 2010 to 2011. they went up on my rent or next year. told them i was leaving at the end of august 31, 2011. they said i have to stay until sept. 31, 2011. i gave them a 45 day notice that. won't let me speak to the owner. telling me i can leave tomorrow, but will pay until end of sept.

If you did not sign a lease, you are on a month-to-month basis after the 2011 lease ran out. (An agreement to make an agreement is not a binding contract.) So, the 30 days notice that you gave is adequate. You may have to sue the landlord to get your full security deposit back.
