Is a municipality permited to put up a sign on private residential property?

Possibly, but more information is required for a better response. For example, what is the subjecy matter of the sign and where is to be placed. Remember that a portion of your property may be the public right of way that belongs to the municipality. Thus, if the sign is being placed in the right of way, it seems to be permitted.
