Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

How do I find out what the estate value of a will is??

I received a release statement and a settlement amount from my Aunt and I feel I'm being unfairly treated. I have a copy of the will and went to court today to get an accounting of the estate. They couldn't find one on file. I don't even know the name of the attorneys that were used. How can I find out what the total value was?

I'm going to need more information to help you.

If you are a residuary beneficiary, then you are entitled to an accounting from the executor. I could not tell from your message if you had signed the settlement documents (probably a release and refunding bond). If you have signed, it may be too late to ask for an accounting. If you have not signed, and you feel you were treated unfairly by the executor, you can file a complaint in court to demand an accounting from the executor which will allow you to examine the estate's financial records. If the executor has done something improper, they can be surcharged and held accountable.
