Legal Question in Immigration Law in New Mexico
Immigration Law and Common Law Marriages
I was wondering if I had any legal rights to a common law marriage if the man I have lived with is an illegal alien.

Re: Immigration Law and Common Law Marriages
Immigration status has no bearing whatsoever on rights that a person has in a marriage. The better question is whether you are really in a common law marriage to begin with, since they are not recognized in most states. If I remember correctly, you cannot form a common law marriage in New Mexico, but NM will recognize common law marriages that were formed in states which DO recognize them.
