Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

Bank Account Freeze

I recently had a creditor file a judgment and put a freeze on my business checking account. There was only $800.00 in the account. I need to deposit checks made out to my company so I can pay my bills. Can I open up another bank account with another bank or will that also be frozen by the judgment?

Re: Bank Account Freeze

Sorry...the judgment applies to your funds, not just to one account, so depositing the checks into any account would get that account frozen, too. Can you pay your bills in cash or money order by visiting a check-cashing service? You'll pay the service a fee but that will allow you to pay ongoing bills.

Some grocery stores will cash third-party checks.
