legality of e-mail in communicating with others

can co-op board members be held liable for damages or legal repercussions if they communicate via e-mail with each other about building or management problems or topics?

I'd need to know a bit more about the situation to answer fully, but, ordinarily, a board member has a limited form of immunity which protects communications relating to matters on which the board member has some supervisory or oversight role.
