Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

checking account

if 2 people are married and one spouse has their own checking account, can creditors take or freeze that account for the other spouses obligations if no money is going into that account from the spouse that is being sued.also the spouse that is being sued at one time had a checking account that was attached to the others but was closed. now the creditors are holding the spouse with the active account responsible unless they say where the other spouse is working.is this legal?

Re: checking account

If the debtors name is on the account, that account can be frozen, regardless of who else is on the account.

The rest seems a bit unseemly.

Good Luck
