Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

medical bills

My father recently passed away during a hospital admission. Since he had signed his own consent forms, including the consent as responsible party for all medical bills, could this eleviate my mother from having to pay the astronomical medical bills his death left behind? or would she be automatically responsible for those bills?

Re: medical bills

Your mother is not responsible. Your father's estate is responsible. The bills would be paid when the estate, if any, is probated. IF there is no will and no assets to be distributed (is any property owned?) the bills won't get paid by anyone.
