Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I was charged with a Misdemeanor Assault (I believe in 3rd Degree) but it was self-defense. I did not harm the victim as that person claims, and that person had a knife to harm me. I do not understand why I was arrested in the first place. I haven't done any crimes, drugs, rob, nothing. I was just heading to work till this VICTIM came towards me and threatening me. My court day of next month, but my major concern is, Will I be convicted of Assault if I hit the person first BECAUSE of self-defense? Will it be dismissed???

Nothing will likely happen at the first court date. I have won several trials with self defense. I suggest that you hire a good criminal defense lawyer.

It all boils down to the facts that will be presented at the trial. I assume you are appearing for the first time on a desk appearance ticket. On the first appearance it is called an arraignment ,the charges will be presented & bail or parole will be set. If you can afford an attorney , I would suggest you retain one. A good competent criminal defense attorney will protect all of your rights. You may contact my office @ 718-834-0087 for a free phone consultation.
