Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Hi my friend hear that she had a letter stating that she had to appear a family court house in the bronx, she doesnt live in the bronx she lives in yonkers. Someone in her household lied and sign a paper stating that she lived there and they recieved the letter. Why can she do, does she still have to appear in court? She doesnt know the date nor she doesnt have the paper due to the facted that her and her mother dont talk and she was the one that lied and sign the paper stating that she still live there. My friend has prove that she hasnt been living there for months and she also has prove that her son attends a school in yonkers. What can my friend do?

If I were her her I would go to the Family Court clerk's office in the Bronx and find out what it is all about. Failure to appear could result in a warrant or a default.
