His attorney can make an application for a bail reduction. A private attorney is more likely to zealously advocate for a bail reduction than a public defender who is frequently overwhelmed by his caseload. Bail is to ensure his appearance at future hearings and trial. It has no bearing on his guilt or innocence nor how much time he may be sentenced to if he is found guilty. You can learn more about bail by reading this: https://www.nycourts.gov/courts/ad1/Committees&Programs;/CLE/Materials - 10-20-11.pdf

Best of luck,
