Legal Question in Discrimination Law in New York

Testifying on suit matter from work

I have been asked to testify in court from a law suit filed by a former employee for discrimination. I have gave statement already to the work lawyer.

Only issue is that the date they set for me is the same day as my post grad final which is 70% of my grade. They said that best they can do is move it the day ahead of exam.

I want to know what my options are in terms of not testifying or changing the date.

They were very firm on those dates.

I am not testifying on behalf of the complaint but for the defense.

Just tell them you're unavailable on that date. You can only be compelled to testify by order of the judge. Ask if your testimony can be videotaped prior to the trial date.

Good luck!
