Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York

Appropiate aggreements for selling a television show

A company has offered to 'shop' and 'sell'

my television show that I created. The

agreement they sent me was a distribution

agreement. I was told that they should

have offered me and agent agreement.

What type of agreement is appropiate it?

Thank you so much for your time.

It really would depend upon the nature of the company. William Morris would have given you an agency agreement, taking a "package" commission. A production company might have given you an option agreement. A distributor generally steps into the picture after a production deal is made and a project is completed. What you call the agreement is less important than what the agreement states it is intended to do. I have over 30 years in this side of the business. If you'd like to call to discuss this further, please feel free. There would be no charge to do so and take a quick look at the document. You can also swing by my website.
