Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I called a lawyer group that helps domestic violence situations in orange county. they said i cant start divorce until Jan. THey said that order I have to go and file myself at court and if my husband comes to take the care to call the police! I feel like noone is helping me. I dont have any money, im waiting almost three months for dss to give me an answer. Ive gone to safe homes.The legal aide lawyer had an attitude. Thanks for the advice but I cant get help. how do I file a petande lite order myself?

Go to the bar association and ask for a pro bono lawyer or to be placed on the 18b panel.

I do not remember the orange county's # but you can find it out on google.
